Important things to remember when detoxing:

  • Stay hydrated - aim for at least 1 gallon of water per day

  • Rest - the body does tremendous work to repair itself while sleeping. Sleep for 6-9 hours every night and avoid electronics and artificial light within 1 hour of going to bed. Because your body is detoxing, you may not have the same level of energy as you usually do.

  • Fast - 4 hours between each meal, and at least a 12 hour fast overnight

  • Reflect - detoxing can bring on tough emotions and possible mood swings. Keep track of these through writing and find healthy ways to release emotions for further detoxing through yoga, meditation, breathing exercises, journaling, and visualization practices

  • Sweat - encourage your body to detox through your skin by engaging in at least 45 min of brisk walking outside every day.

  • Eat a cleansing diet - Remember to cut out foods associated with inflammation like processed meats, dairy, eggs, processed foods and drinks, foods high in sugar, and foods high in salt. Instead consume mostly cruciferous vegetables, raw leafy greens, melons, berries and some beans and whole grains.
